Man killed in Haleiwa motorcycle crash identifed
Advertiser Staff
A motorcyclist killed last night in a crash was identified today by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office as Nathaniel Graves, 30, of Hale'iwa.
Since March 12, 10 people have been killed in nine motorcycle crashes on O'ahu, including five between Sept. 4 and last night. Police vehicular homicide investigators said Graves was operating a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle on Kamehameha Highway which failed to negotiate a bend in the road about 144 feet north of Emerson Road.
The motorcycle veered off the roadway and onto a gravel shoulder before striking a utility pole, police said.
Police were notified at 11:54 p.m.
Graves, who was thrown from the motorcycle, died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
An autopsy today listed cause and manner as cranial cerebral injuries due to an accidental motorcycle collision.
Speed appears to be a factor, police said.
The death is O'ahu's 50th traffic fatality of 2007 as compared to 79 on the same date last year.

Well Fred, when someone on a bike fails to negotiate a corner due to excess speed I would say they belong on a racetrack if they're gonna be riding that hard. Seeing the Street Racing Videos thread and the news reports on this site, I would hope to open some eyes. I understand Mike's motivation, because he's in line for 10% or $5 million dollars off the development of HRP. Condemnation might not be good for his retirement plan. I guess it was OK for Mike to talk about the 3 new racetracks (H1,H2, and H3) when HRP closed down - as long as it helped sell his $50 million dollar tax credit.

For once in his life he was actually right about something. Only thing is, he forgot to tell everyone the REAL REASON the track closed was because he sold the place for a cool $5 million. I wouldn't expect you major assholes to ever really care about young people being killed and injured from street racing. Like Mike said to Derrick DePledge "They can race on the street, I'm old enough for social security"

P.S. Fred, go back and read the updated news report. 5 riders killed in the past 2 months. Soon we will be at epidemic levels.

nice find there dirt -
Harley's don't come to the track to roadrace - I saw one in 11 years.
You probably know more than me though - I was just there for almost every roadrace event for the past 11 years.
The last 3 motorcycle fatalities were in no way realated to not having a track - 2 Cruisers and a poor guy who was minding his own business got hit by a truck.
as for Oakland - I don't give a shit if he gets $100 million or a big fat $0. We don't have a track and if he fucked it up tough - it doesn't change where we are now.
BTW - your epidemic of people dying on the road is a ghost since there are 29 fewer fatalities on the road now than there were this time last year.

You're wrong as usual. Last year was when the track closed, the number of fatalities jumped to record levels. The State got a Federal grant to put more cops on the road, and increased the penalties to combat it. It won't work. Yeah, I know more than you because I've been to just about every neighborhood board on the island. And have seen testimony about the growing street racing epidemic that exists island wide. Which I also witness in my own neighborhood firsthand.
And not all the motorcycle deaths this year were on cruisers, there were sportbikes as well. After watching the Hawaii Street Racing Videos thread, I can see why. And yes cruisers racing at the drag strip was a popular event. Just because you never went, doesn't mean that cruisers weren't there. (helmets required)
A ghost eh? Let's see you name the number of counties across the US with the population of Honolulu that don't have a legal racetrack? There aren't any. The only ghosts here are from the dead people that were street racing. Many more to come thanks to your greedy friends.
