When I 1st read the topic I thought maybe you had an old Ford truck on the dyno. :p That looks pretty cool... I'll bet that moto was loud as hell in that little room!

Yeah Chad, it was pretty loud. But not as violent as being next to the fuel cars at the starting line at Vegas. Now those things are LOUD :D
The Guard's 154th maintenance guys are the best. So you knew nothing was going to happen. But if it did you wouldn't feel a thing anyway. Now the fuel cars you know they are going to explode. You just don't know when. I was at the starting line when a burst panel blew and you can hear it flipping in the air. It landed back on the track. You gotta have your head on a swivel at the starting line when the BIG boys run.

Is that a GE engine,Roll Royce or another manufaturer's engine,,, I used to work at thee airport and Love the sound of a Rolls Royce Jet engine sound,,, Pratt& Whitney and GE are other manufacturers out there & have distinct sound differences,,,,
&& I too thought it would be an F100 of Ford Persuasion,,, ?? :D I can imagine what kinda of thrust that baby put out,,,

The F series are Prat and Whitney motors. Actually the one on the stand is the F220 series. The 220s are all digital controls verses the F100s are analog. So when the pilot pushes on the throttle the respoonse to full stage 5 after burners is in 3 seconds. The analog F100 took about 10. Each engine produces 24,000 + foot pounds of thrust and consumes 40,000 pounds of fuel an hour at stage 5.
From what I was told the new Raptors engines are very similar except for the thrust vectoring. Hawaii will be the only guard unit to have the Raptors and that won't be until 2010. The Air Force is cutting back on the original order. We will be featuring the traveling simulator next time it makes its way to Hickam.
I had access that no other station has ever had at Hickam. If you watch the show on Sunday at 10:30pm on K-5 you'll see. It was amazing. The show took 6 weeks to shoot and over 100 hours to edit. The type of resouces that no other show could allocate. We were very fortunate.
