We have an opportunity to build something we can all enjoy at P24.
Unfortunately there is a handfull of people (5-9) who are trying to kill this opportunity - look at the posts and you can see who these people are.
You want to know who's keeping this from happening? There you go...
Take a look at your own OMAC testimony to see why we don't have a track...

The former Hawaii Raceway Park facility consists of outdated infrastructure and insufficient land area. We know, from personal experience, that the former HRP site has severe limitations that have negatively affected our motor sports growth for many years. Due to the geographical separation of the dirt oval side of the facility from the asphalt side. The limitation impacts are primarily independent of the dirt oval. Thus the support by some for maintaining the status quo for the dirt oval. The following are some of the factors that contributed to the challenges of operating at the former HRP. And our reasons to
support a better alternative.
#1. The site is too small. The current property isn't large enough to support a modern facility. That can support multi-function events. Multiple venues cannot run concurrently due to the lack of space. In the past we've been limited to one possibly 2 events per day. And there has been a constant struggle between organizations for track time on the calendar. There have been hundreds of conflicts and requests for our organizations for days. Due to the design our events are limited to scope. And one event must be completely cleaned up before the next event can occur.
#2. The site was designed as a single purpose facility. The current track is outdated and is in serious need of a complete overhaul from the ground up. To support the new racing events such as drifting and motorcycle racing. The track was built in the 1960's to support only 2 venues, as many of the current sports didn't even exist in Hawaii or anywhere else in the world. Over time technology has increased vehicle capacities and motor sports has advanced. Parking has always been a limiting factor. To facilitate spectator access to events, some events
must stop racing to safely get spectators into the facility itself. Again this is a space constraint issue. During road races, spectators can only enter during the downtime between races. And the most important one. Multiple sanctioning bodies require
different safety standards that are at odds with each other. Because HRP was not designed as a multipurpose raceway, there has been constant compromises on the safety requirements for different events. I.E. drag
racing requires guardrails, but motorcycle racing considers them a hazard. Each organization requires different safety standards but because they have to share a single asphalt track, it's an unfortunate
and potentially dangerous middle ground that must be utilized. Inadequate infrastructure. There is limited on-site infrastructure. The sewer system is incompatible with EPA standards. There is limited plumbing. The lighting fixtures and wiring are inadequate. And the zoning requirements prevent upgrading of the existing infrastructure. The zoning violation. The zoning variance that allowed motor sports events has expired. A motor sports complex is permitted by the Land Use Ordinance in IMX-2, industrial mixed use. And to properly support this our property would need to be up zoned. In the end this would add cost to run the facility.
