Axl James Deacon Fundraiser Update / The Day After

Great Sunday event. We estimated over 2000 paying bikers and others from the motorsports community showed up yesterday. The chopper that they gave away was valued at over $18,000. The winner put the bike up for auction and will donate all proceeds back to the Deacon family.

Axl's father Chase Deacon had worked for world famous biker builder Indian Larry and grandfather Deacon as he is referred to is a legend having an 8 second Harley dragbike and built the world famous Jack Daniel's chopper seen in Harley publications all over the world.

KGMB and KITV showed up to cover the event yesterday. During the week KHNL and the Star Bulletin also came out to provide exposure. It was good running into old colleagues from the media at the event. Several of those attending yesterday said they saw the story in the Bulletin or the KHNL piece on Tuesday. Minus the bike proceeds I'd say the Deacon's came close to their goal of $50,000. They want to continue this as an annual event and find some other child or cause to give to next year.

PunishUM donated and got our own sponsors to donate over $3000 to the Deacon family. PunishUM also provided all the PR services pro-bono to help get the exposure for this fundraiser.

The surgery for little Axl James Deacon is scheduled for June the 14 in Dallas at the Dallas Pediatric Center. There were some misconceptions from the only local doctor who performs this procedure but is not an expert in the disease. Here in Hawaii it would be covered by medical insurance but Axl will have to endure 3 surgeries and the removal of skull material in place of a metal plate and screws and months in the hospital. In Texas with Dr. Fearon who performs more of these Cranialsynostisis procedures in a month then the Hawaii surgeon has done in her eniter career has pioneered a new technique requiring one surgery, less invasive and with a new melting sutures to the skull technique. NO metal plates and screws. Little Axl will spend only 2 days in the hospital and the family will remain in Texas for 2 weeks for follow up visits. Now if it was your child, what would you do?

Thanks to everyone's support that help's PunishUM so we can always continue to support great causes like these year round.
