Maui Raceway Closing too

This is such a sad state of affairs for ALL Hawaii racers. I was told by Sharon Spring a board member of the Valley Isle Timing Association the other day that the planned prison on Maui is going to be built right where Maui Raceway now occupies. We are now possibly going to lose another track here in Hawaii.

The place where the Maui SCCA track was, has been recently torn up to make way for a highway expansion. The good news is that the Maui SCCA is being relocated to another area.

But the Bad News is, for how much longer?

This is not good news for all of the racing community here in Hawaii at all.

Ok, I asked someone in the Gov's office today to look into the claims from VITA and this is what I got back.

Aloha Tracy...this is the final word from our Maui Liaison...

The proposed prison is to be built on land immediately mauka of the new National Guard Armory or east of the armory and north of the raceway park; it is not proposed to be built on the Maui Raceway site.

Hope this puts the rumors to rest...

Thank GOD that we won't be losing another track from our beautiful Hawaii. So Maui is safe.
