With this thread, we will examine OMAC's "more viable options". According to the OMAC group, Hawaii Raceway Park was too small, too old, unsafe, etc. and there are "more viable options" available to the racers. Let's examine these options and the progress (or lack thereof) the OMAC group has achieved to date.
1. Kalaeloa Parcel 9
2. The former Hawaiian Meat Co. Feedlot
3. Kalaeloa Airport
4. Dilingham Airport

You are implying that "making things worse" for SORT somehow makes your "jobs" easier. It's your "jobs" to make things bad for SORT?

If it is the "job" of each group to pick each others efforts apart instead of concentrating on what the racers need, then there is no point in discussing this thread.
What OMAC does and what SORT does is for racing whether you like it or not.

Sorry, but I don't see what OMAC is doing is for racing. Their testimony to the City Council greatly harmed the efforts to preserve HRP. No track = no racing.

Honolulu City Council
530 S. King Street, Room 202
Honolulu, Hawaii 96813
Subject: Testimony for RESOLUTION 07-162 – ACQUISITION (FOR CONDEMNATION) – PUBLIC RACEWAY PARK
Chair Kobayashi and Committee Members.
My name is Michael J. Kitchens, and I represent the Oahu Motorsports Advisory Council (OMAC), a volunteer organization comprised of over 90% of the former tenants of Hawaii Raceway Park (HRP). In order to prevent misrepresentation, we would like this written testimony to stand as OMAC's current and only stance on this sensitive issue.
I’m writing in support of the INTENT of resolution 07-162. While we appreciate the willingness of the committee and the Council to consider condemnation of the old HRP site, in our opinion, it is the least desired option.
The mission of the OMAC is to promote the need for a safer, larger, multi-use, permanent facility that would allow for motorsports’ present and future growth on Oahu. At the time of its closure, HRP could no longer support our organizations’ needs and was a severe limiting factor in our growth. Since HRP’s creation in the early 1960’s, our motorsports community has slowly outgrown the aging facility. For our member organizations, we are concerned about the space, safety, and the versatility of scheduling that HRP lacked, and may still not be able to provide even after reconstruction.
Alternatives are still being pursued by other entities and our choice is to support these efforts in lieu of the condemnation of HRP. Additionally, since alternatives may be preferable options we would hope that the City Council would be equally willing to support the development of such an alternative to the same extent they would be willing to support condemnation.
All we ask, when the time comes, is that the City Council will do what they can to expedite the process to complete the permits and necessary paperwork to establish a permanent racing facility.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Michael J. Kitchens
Chairman,
Oahu Motorsports Advisory Council

"Parcel 9" was the much ballyhooed "World Class Racing Facility". A 20 year effort with no progress to date. The owner of the property (DHHL) has stated recently that the proposed land swap deals have all been turned down (no deal).
Kane said the Enomoto group has never offered property that meets his agency's goal to provide homesteads for Hawaiian beneficiaries.

Mike Oakland (of the Oakland/Enomoto Partnership) made claims of a $200 million dollar facility, while never being able to explain exactly where the money was coming from to pay for it.

Even the OMAC chairman has conceded that "P9 is dead".

Hardly a more viable alternative...

You can not see by choice. People have their own methods of showing what they believe in. It is your choice to understand the efforts and beliefs from fellow members in your community whether you like it or not.

Oh I understand them perfectly. They've been brainwashed by the former leaseholders, who sold the purchase option for HRP to Irongate for $5 million.

I can sum it up for you; 1) NO 2) NO 3) NO 4) NO
Isn't it funny how they are looking for temp, quick fix locations when their "mission statement" say's otherwise? I think in Hawaii they call it a cock-block attempt.

I think their mission statement should be to keep Hawaii Raceway Park closed, to make sure their leaders Oakland and Enomoto can get their 10% profit. That's the ONLY thing they've actually been able to accomplish so far, besides screwing all the racers out of a track. I doubt if their latest brilliant idea is gonna make it any further than the first 4.

I guess no one at OMAC ever heard of the Urban Boundary, the Land Use Ordinance, The Ewa Development Plan, or the County General Plan. Minor details.

First of all, who fricken died and made you king? Secondly, nobody is buying your reverse psychology bullcrap. When a person is the so-called chairman of an advisory counsel , he makes a bold statement about never doing something, then he goes against his word/belief, it will get exposed to everyone or anyone that gives a shit. Thats the way it is.
