Default Drifting / Drags Shaun Carlson Dies

Pioneer of the Import drag racing and drifting scene Shaun Carlson died yesterday, October the fourth. He was just 35 years old. Cause of death is unknown.

I can tell you personally he was a cool dude. I got to meet him in 2001 and he helped PunishUM with the very first "Speed Safely" Public Service Announcement. It was so cool as they invited us to his test session at HRP before he ran that weekend. A great story and a lot of cool footage. We recieved an international Telly and a Pele Advertising award for that PSA Shaun did for me in 2002. Patrick Jordan helped and Dale Payson did the voice over.

When I was at SEMA that year in 2001 I attended the NHRA drag press conference and he ran up to me and gave me his Hot Wheels die cast of his record breaking Meguiar's / Nu Formz racing front wheel drive Ford Focus. He was so proud.

I was also working with him to bring his driver Sam Hubinette here to Hawaii when we did the stadium drift events. I also reminded him if he comes here he would have to autograph the Hot Wheel as part of the deal.

He was an innovator and a cool dude. I can say I was glad to know Shaun. He will be missed and the sport of drifting and import drags owes him a bunch of gratitude.

I know he's hanging with Dave Tang right now and Dave's bugging him for a Grip exclusive. God Speed Shaun Carlson.
