Default Status of efforts to save Hawaii Raceway Park

Currently, there is support at the City Council to preserve Hawaii Raceway Park. However, the issue is stuck in the Planning Committee where MR. GARY OKINO DOES NOT BELIEVE OAHU NEEDS A RACETRACK. The Planning Committee did the same thing last year when Mr. Cachola was chair.

Racers who want a full 1/4 mile dragstrip and a facility bigger than 35 acres (1/2 the size of HRP) are encouraged to lobby Mr. Okino through email and phonecalls, or however else you can contact him.

WHAT!!! We don't need a racetrack??? Maybe we just need to have a few people run over like what happened in Tennessee.

Yeah, heard about that one. The guy is supposed to be a pro. You think he would have known better.

Unforutnately the new smoke and mirrors is that Street Racing has gone down since the track closed. Really ? ?

Tell me why traffice fatalities are up? Speeding citations are up? Packs of hundereds of vehicles prowl the streets now that were unheard of before when the track was open. Or most disturbing the amount of road side memorials now days. Have you noticed?

Nah, must just be my imagination. If politicians are PARROTING this, then it must be true, right? Because only a year ago for over a decade it was the cry that we need a bigger track to curb Street Racing. My, how these political types," Awwk, WCF @ P 9. Awwwwk." Okino wants a cracker? OR better yet, monkey see, monkey looks like you know who . . .

Former Senator Fred Thompson said he left Washington for the reality and sincerity of Hollywood. What does that tell you?

As reported in this article/video http://www.kitv.com/news/14237811/detail.html , the racers have turned to the State for help in saving Hawaii Raceway Park.

Last week, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Representative Sharon Har have introduced legislation to save HRP. SB2190 and companion bill HB2574 .

How often do these city council meetings happen?? Where?? Can anyone go? I would really like to be a part of any group that is trying to get the track open.

There probably won't be anymore public hearings this year. The best way to help now is to get on our email list and help send out emails to legislators when testimony is allowed. You can PM me your email address or call 676-4422.

Also, there is a meeting open for all racers and track supporters to discuss the track issues this Saturday 03/22/2008 6:00pm at Makakilo Elementary School.
